Divorcing

Dairy

Day by Day.

Yes you can.

You’ve loved her for so long.  She’s been in your life as long as you can remember.  They said she was good for you, made you stronger, did your body good.  She made you feel so naughty.  And you thought that love would last forever.

But the sad truth is, she never loved you. In fact, she’s been hurting you, sabotaging you, lying to you about “strong bones” for years now.  She’s been quietly sneaking estrogen, antibiotics, growth hormone and stress hormone into your body.  She’s a bad, bad girl.

Maybe it’s time to meet someone new.  I hear oat milk and cashew cheese are single and ready to mingle.  But how do you say goodbye to that dairy temptress?

If you can’t do it overnight, try it gradually…try LESS dairy milk/cheese and add some organic unsweetened soy milk (preferred if you have a hormone-related cancer), oat milk or non-dairy cheese you can make yourself in five minutes (recipe below) OR use non-dairy cheese, just in moderation. Next day, take out more dairy and add MORE non-dairy.  Keep going.  Be deliberate.  See if you can totally break up with her in a week or two.

But don’t be afraid to say goodbye.  You won’t miss her.

WHY GIVE IT UP?

EASY CHEESE SAUCE EXAMPLE

Take a cup of soaked cashews and a package of silken tofu (and/or a can of great northern beans).  Throw them in a blender with a spoonful of salt, the juice from a whole lemon, three spoonfuls of nutritional yeast (cheesy flavor), a spoonful of powdered garlic and/or onion, and whatever other spices you like (oregano for Italian, smoked paprika or cumin for Mexican, Mrs. Dash for more flavor, etc.)!  Add some soymilk (unsweetened) if you want to make it thinner like a sauce.  Taste and see what else you might want to add, which is the beauty of making your own!  I also put it on the stove after I blend it up just to combine the flavors and give it a good texture.  Takes about ten minutes total!

WAY TOO EASY PARMESAN CHEESE EXAMPLE

Take a cup of unsoaked cashews, a teaspoon of salt, a teaspoon of nutritional yeast (cheesy flavor), and a teaspoon of garlic.  Grind it up.  Sprinkle on top of your pasta, lasagna, or sliced tomatoes and basil, not too much, a little goes a long way!
